Aalsmeer – SimFlying has received certification from the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT Aviation Authority) as an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) for providing APS-MCC training. With this certification, SimFlying takes an important next step in the development of the company as a professional training centre for future airline pilots.
Within the certification framework, SimFlying is authorized to offer the Airline Pilot Standards Multi-Crew Cooperation (APS-MCC) training. The course aligns with EASA's European requirements for Multi-Crew Cooperation training and represents the final important training step for many pilots between flight instruction and selection by an airline.
SimFlying’s APS-MCC is conducted on the Airbus A320 simulator, which is certified as an FNPT II MCC, and combines an online self-study environment developed by SimFlying with ground school and 40 hours of simulator training. The emphasis is not only on the technical flying of the aircraft, but also on competencies central to airline operations, such as workload management, communication, decision-making, situational awareness, and collaboration within a multi-crew cockpit.
SimFlying has been active in the field of professional simulator training for many years and is particularly known for preparing pilots for airline assessments. Based on this training experience, the step towards its own certified APS-MCC training is a logical next step in the development of SimFlying.
“This certification is an important milestone for us. For years, we have been guiding (aspiring) pilots in their preparation for airline assessments and see firsthand what is required of candidates in that final step toward the airline. With our own APS-MCC, we can now start earlier in that process and prepare students for that professional multi-crew environment through certified training. This fits perfectly with the direction in which we want to further develop SimFlying.” – Toby Enzerink, Accountable Manager and co-owner of SimFlying
The certification follows an extensive process with the ILT Aviation Authority, during which the organization, training programs, instructors, and simulator, among other things, were assessed.
SimFlying works with a team of certified instructors who are themselves active in commercial aviation and fly for various airlines. This combination of current operational and instructional experience forms a key foundation of the APS-MCC training. Students are not only trained according to formal standards but also receive guidance based on the daily practice of airline operations. Furthermore, upon completion of the training, students can make use of an additional aftercare program aimed at further preparation for airline assessments and selection processes.
“An APS-MCC is much more than learning to fly in a multi-crew cockpit. Students must learn to think, communicate, and collaborate at a level that aligns with what is expected of them later within an airline. Precisely because our instructors are active in commercial aviation themselves, we can translate that operational practice very directly into the training.” – Jelle Visser, Head of Training SimFlying
First APS-MCC class now underway
SimFlying's first APS-MCC training has now started. The participants have completed the self-study and ground school and are now starting the simulator phase. For SimFlying, this means not only is the certification secured, but the actual execution of the training has also begun.
“It is great to see that the first class is now actually underway. In the coming phase, we will increasingly translate theory into practice in the simulator. The emphasis here will be on crew teamwork, decision-making, workload management, and developing the competencies students will need in an airline environment.” – Maarten van Walt Meijer, Lead Instructor SimFlying
